Topical Conferences
General Information
The European Geosciences Union invites individual scientists, working groups and committees to mutually organize Topical Conferences for an in-depth discussion of selected topics in the Earth, Planetary and Solar System Sciences amongst invited specialists in a congenial atmosphere along the following premises:
- The conference must be organized, if possible, on a cost price basis without any financial support from the EGU.
- The conference should attract at least 500 and more attendees and should be held, if possible, in the fall (September, October or November), in order to be complementary to the EGU General Assemblies held in spring (March-April)
- The Scientific Organizer should find an attractive conference title, establish a Programme and/or a local Organizing Committee (optional), compile an attractive list of (tentative) key-note speakers, and collect a list of potential participants (optional).
- The EGU and the Scientific Organizer mutually agree on the Conference Venue, on the Financing & Accounting, the Conference Budget and the Hotel Booking & Travel Arrangement Plans, on the tentative Pre-Conference and Conference Time Schedules and on the Conference Publications.
- The EGU may be responsible for the Programme Promotion, the overall Abstract and Scientific Programme Management with the input of the Scientific Organizer, the actual Conference Publications and the Registration & On-site Services. The Scientific Organizer and his/her team is invited to support or even adopt the on-site activities. The costs for the services provided by the EGU must be included in the overall budget of the conference.
Alexander von Humdoldt Topical Conferences
The Alexander von Humboldt Medal and the Alexander von Humboldt Conferences are part of a special outreach programme regarding South America and Africa.
Topical Conferences organized in in these continents by local scientists and their institutes under the title „Alexander von Humboldt Topical Conference“ may receive additional financial support by the EGU Committee on Outreach, in order to be able to invite key-note speakers from outside of these continents. Applications have to be addressed by the local organizer directly to the Chair of the Outreach Committee. Otherwise, the Alexander von Humboldt Topical Conferences have to be handled like normal EGU Topical Conferences (see above).
Application
Please submit your Conference Proposal, to organize and to run your Topical Conference together with the EGU Office.
