EGU Topical Conferences: Submission of a Conference Proposal

Anyone interested in convening and chairing a Topical Conference should submit a proposal to the EGU Office. Each proposal must contain the following:

  1. A short title for the subject on the conference
  2. A short outline of the conference subject in about 250 words.
  3. A short statement explaining why the proposed conference topic is of current interest and which progress can be achieved by a Topical Conference.
  4. An initial list of suggested key speakers and their field of interest.
  5. A suggestion of international participants who should be encouraged to attend; and a proposal of possible sources that may support their travel.
  6. Suggestion of a conference site.
  7. Suggestion of a date and alternative dates.
  8. Anticipated number of participants.
  9. Suggestion for field trips that could be part of the conference.
  10. Preliminary conference budget showing that the conference is self-supporting.
  11. A statement indicating the willingness of the conveners to cooperate with the coordinator.
  12. Biographic data on the conveners with a list of publications and projects that qualify them for leading the proposed conference.
  13. Identification of co-sponsors, if any, and their role in the conference.
  14. Request for further information and advice in connection with the preparation of proposals for EGU Conferences should be sent to the EGU Office.

Proposals for Topical Conferences will be submitted to the appropriate Topical Conference Committee. The appropriate Topical Conference Committee reviews the proposals as they are received. In acceptance of a proposal, the EGU may offer advice, which in some cases may be a condition of acceptance. EGU will address an advisory letter to the conveners calling attention to any matters that seem likely to pose a problem that must be resolved if the conference is to be successful.
