Mission Statement for Meetings

Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the organization and running of conferences, meetings, workshops and short courses in all areas of geosciences and planetary and solar system sciences for the benefit of all scientists, in particular of the younger and more recently established ones.

Objectives

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is a dynamic, innovative and interdisciplinary learned society devoted to the following meeting strategy:

  • Organization of one General Assembly per year in March/April
  • Organization of smaller Conferences, Meetings and Workshops for an in-depth discussion of selected topics encompassed by by the Union normally in September - November, complementary to the General Assemblies
  • Organization of Short Courses for smaller groups of mainly younger scientists throughout the year
  • Maximum attention with respect to the scientific and technical quality of each meeting
  • Special Support Programmes for younger scientist to attend the meetings of the Union
  • Sponsorship or Co-Sponsorship of scientific meetings organized by other bodies.
