PC6. Deep water corals: environmental conditions and palaeoceanography:

Event Information

Recent findings have shown that deep sea corals occur in the oceans at various depths below the photic zone and under a range of environmental conditions governing their growth, in equilibrium with in-situ bottom water conditions. Detailed determination of these recent conditions allows for a better calibration and definition of proxies for past records of productivity, temperature and salinity of the oceanwaters, as well as age of bottom waters. The symposium aims at obtaining new insights and a better definition of these proxies in relation to present day environmental conditions and ecology of the deep sea coral communities.
