NH3.03 Risk assessment and mapping: Application of GIS to earthquake vulnerability, risk and disaster management

Event Information

Earthquake impact on communities is a topic of great importance in earth sciences and earthquake engineering. Many different subjects are involved in this topic covering a wide spectrum of interests. In this Symposium papers dedicated to the analysis of the different subjects and to the inter-relations among them are welcome. The overall picture dealing with source, path, microzoning and building behaviour in general terms will be analysed and the most important parameters controling the the entire process should be discussed. Use of GIS technologies is thought to be very appealing. The final goal of the session is RISK. That means, losses evaluation and analysis of the influence of different factors in damage. Papers dealing with issues of interest for final users as civil defence responsibles and insurance companies will be very welcome as well as studies of prime importance to estimate gross consequences to expect, within a given time horizon, in a large region such as Europe, and consequently, of great help for the decision makers to set mitigation priorities.
