SE9.02 Lithospheric deformation: Extension of the lithosphere and evolution of sedimentary basins

Event Information

This session will focus on the mechanics and dynamics of lithosphere extension. Both observational and modelling contributions are invited applied to either continental and oceanic lithosphere. Key issues to be addressed are: # reconciling extension and subsidence within intra-continental rifts # formation of the continent-ocean boundary # mantle exhumation at rifted margins # extensional processes at ocean ridges # mantle exhumation at ocean ridges # rift propagation # role of buoyancy forces during rifting # subsidence at rifted margins # formation of large failed rifts
