OA6. Open session on coastal/shelf seas:

Event Information

Being held at the beginning of the third millenium, this session provides an open forum for discussions of the main achievments in understanding the integrated systems of the shelf and coastal seas. The objective is to give the state-of-the-art general assessment of the coastal water processes and dynamics including influence of physical processes on biogeochemical properties of the coastal system. Contributions are welcome that are related to both field observations and analytical, numerical or laboratory modelling. Along with regional studies covering North, Baltic, Mediterranen, Black, Arctic and other European seas, a special part of the session will consider main results of process oriented studies. These include slope currents and exchanges over the shelf break, tides, internal waves, jets and mesoscale eddies on the shelf, shelf/slope/nearshore coupling, transport of dissolved and suspended matter, dense water overflow and non-linear processes in coastal waters.
