OA32.04 Climate variability: Climate of the polar regions

Event Information

This symposium addresses the variability of the climate in the polar regions of both hemispheres on synoptic to decadal timescales. The session covers meteorology, oceanography (including sea ice), hydrology, and interactions between the components of the polar climate system. Emphasis is put on variability that is displayed in the troposphere, the upper ocean, and the atmosphere-ocean interface. Other phenomena in polar regions, such as icebergs, snowfall on land, and river run-off into the Arctic Ocean, are also considered as far as they express manifestations of climate variability. The polar climate variability is assessed by observations, modelling studies, and combinations thereof (e. g., data assimilation, model verification). Regional studies as well as polar aspects of global studies (e. g., GCMs, analyses) are welcome.
