OA3. Coastal atmospheres and surface coupling:

Event Information

Due to heightened interest in optimizing environmental policies in coastal regions, a high priority in the atmospheric sciences has been to understand and parameterize the processes which govern the interactions between the atmosphere and surface. Unique to this domain is the high degree of spatial and temporal inhomogeneity as well as the step function at the coastline. In this regard, the aim of the symposium on coastal atmosphere and surface coupling will be to summarize the state of the art on the controlling processes, assumptions and uncertainties, in the context of present and future applications. Flow fields, air pollution, surface exchanges, topography, integrated modelling, and limits of predictability, are among the issues to be considered. A special emphasis will be placed on assembling an inventory of scientific challenges.
