NP2.05 Scaling, multifractals and nonlinear variability in geophysics: Stochastic rainfall modelling: scaling/non-scaling approaches and disaggregation (co-sponsored by HS)

Event Information

Following upon last year's session which sought to create some interaction between the developments in the use of scaling/multi-scaling techniques in rainfall modelling and the hierarchical approach to the stochastic representation of rainfall, this session aims to pursue the debate. All scales of interest are considered and a particular emphasis will be given to the problem of disaggregation in space or time. The focus is on the divergences/convergences of the two approaches, successes/problems encountered, as well as the possibility of formulating critical tests or developing benchmarks for stochastic rainfall modellling.
