HSB1.01 Water resources assessment: Water resources assessment at different scales

Event Information

In the light of the increasing scarcity of water (at global, national, river basin and local scales) the assessment of the availability of water resources becomes more and more important. In the past, water resources assessment was rather straightforward. Often the information provided was a mere indication of the average annual availability of water in million cubic meters per annum. It is now widely realised that proper indicators for water availability need to take into account: a) the temporal variability of the resource; b) the spatial scale and variability of the resource; c) the character of the resource (surface water, groundwater, blue, green, or fossil water); d) the quality of the resource; and e) the level of development (or mobilisation) of the resource. We welcome papers that make a contribution to the integrated evaluation of water resources with regard to one or more of these aspects, both in a theoretical sense and/or through the analysis of case studies.
