HSA3.02 Atmosphere-biosphere interactions at short and long time scales (co-sponsored by OA): Ecosystem-atmosphere interaction in coupled vegetation-atmosphere models at short and long time scales

Event Information

The representation of surface fluxes in atmospheric models has received considerable attention over the last decade or so. The current generation of soil-vegetation- atmosphere transfer schemes (SVATS) calculate the surface to atmosphere fluxes of heat, water and momentum in some detail, but normally require the properties of the land surface as a prescribed input. Climate models which use these schemes therefore neglect potentially important interactions and feedbacks associated with vegetation change. This symposium will bring together researchers working on the modelling of vegetation-atmosphere interactions on a broad range of space and time scales. Papers are welcomed concerning interactive vegetation modelling in atmospheric and climate models of all complexities from simple Earth System box models to full GCMs. Presentations or posters concerning either biophysical interactions (e.g. albedo changes) and/or biochemical interactions (e.g. carbon cycling) are particularly welcomed.
