HSA3.01 Atmosphere-biosphere interactions at short and long time scales (co-sponsored by OA): Land surface parameterization in global hydrological and atmospheric models

Event Information

Large scale hydrological and atmospheric models include sub- models or parameterisations of the land surface processes to quantify the energy, water and momentum exchanges between the biosphere and the atmosphere. This symposium aims to review current and new developments in these global-scale parameterisation schemes. The scope of the symposia is to broaden the exchange of information on parameterizations between the hydrological sciences and atmospheric sciences. Generation, evaluation and availability of global land cover data sets on soils, vegetation types and density, albedo, emissivity, temperatures, orography and roughness are basic to hydrological and atmospheric models and therefore of great interest in the ongoing scientific work. Likewise are improved physical and numerical descriptions of larger scale exchange processes of importance especially in non-homogeneous terrain with large gradients in the spatial domain.
