EGS1. Solid Earth dynamics: state of the art and future perspectives:

Event Information

The formulation of the theory of plate tectonics in the 1960's was a formidable milstone in the evolution of Earth Sciences. In the meantime plate tectonics is becoming an integral part of present-day views on the dynamics of our planet Earth, encompassing not only the Earth's upper 700 kilometres but the full depth scale of the mantle. Integration of various Earth Science disciplines has proven to be a key element in the success of plate tectonics and it will most likely continue to be so in the near future. In this symposium we aim at presenting on overview of Solid Earth dynamics, not only to review that state of the art but with the specific intention to contribute to choosing and defining the road towards further progress in unravelling the dynamics of the solid Earth.
